The main festival in Seychelles is the Victoria
International Carnival. It takes place in the
first weeks of February. For 3 days, parades are
held on various frequent islands of Mahe to
highlight various aspects of the Seychelles
culture. Many hotels on the island also take
part in the festival.

Semaine de la Francophonie is held in mid-March.
It celebrates the diversity and richness of the
French language and Francophone communities
around the world. During the week you can take
part in exhibitions, musical evenings, literary
readings and other events devoted to French
culture, language and food.

Holy Week is an important period in the life of
Seychellois, as most of them are Catholic
worshippers. People with their families attend
church services together include good Friday and
Easter. You can see parties, feasts and street

Round Table Beau Vallon Regatta The event takes
place in August or September. The events
schedule includes numerous sports competitions,
live performances by local artists as well as
many fairground games. The weekend culminates
with a hilarious Greasy Pole Contest, where
competitors struggle to reach a cash prize fixed
on top of a 6-metre wooden pole smothered in
grease.

SUBIOS Underwater Festival is held every year
during the month of December on Beau Vallon
beach People come here from all over the world
to watch films and photos devoted to the marine
world. There are also competitions, fairs and
boating.

Creole Festival is a must for those tourists
looking to gain an insight into local culture and
society. This is a bright six-day holiday at the
end of October. The festival of Creole culture
takes place on Mahe, La Digue and Praslin and
includes Creole art, handicrafts, songs, dances
and food.

The festival of the Assumption takes place in
mid-August. It is particularly well-celebrated
on La Digue with a Mass, procession, and festival
that attracts many visitors from other islands.
In the weeks leading up to the event, houses
are spruced up, altars are decorated, and statues
are re-painted before being carried on the 15th
as part of the procession to the island's church.

The Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon takes place
in the northern part of Mahe in February. It
gathers sports fans from around the world. The
Eco-Friendly Marathon is held every year to
promote health and fitness, as well as raise
awareness about the environment.
