  • Hearing loss problem occurs in child is depends
    on so many factor, if hearing disability at birth
    then this is known as Congenital hearing loss.
    Cause of hearing loss in children is depend on so
    many factor like infection or genetic factor.
  • some know causes of hearing impairment are
  • A family history of hearing loss.
  • Frequent and/or recurring ear infections as an
    infant or todder.
  • Meningitis,Measles and CMV(Cytomegalovirus)
    Infection.
  • Some antibiotics and chemotherapy treatments that
    may have hearing loss as one of the side effects.

Other Risk Factors
  • The Children may also be tested for a Hearing
    impairment if they experienced any of the
    following
  • If the child was born premature and/or weighed
    less then 2 lbs at birth.
  • Required ventilation assistance for more then 10
    days right after birth.
  • Scored very low on the Apgar Test at Birth.
  • Experienced severe jaundice after birth.

Signs Symptoms of a Hearing Impairment in
Children
  • The child may experience frequent ear infections.
  • The child may be delayed in their language
    development.
  • The child may find it difficult to identify or
    locate certain sounds.
  • The child may watch TV at a really high volume.
  • The child's speech may sound different or speak
    clearly.
  • The child may have beavioural issues,displaying
    inattentiveness and disruptive behaviour.

    future educational placement.

Child may need a full hearing evaluation if they
  • dont respond to things said to them, or dont
    seem to notice that you have spoken to them
  • ask you to repeat things (more for older children
    than infants)
  • need to search right and left to find the voice
    or sound
  • start talking later than children the same age
    (based on reports by teachers, etc)
  • cant say words and sentences the right way
  • have difficulty hearing one voice when several
    people are talking
  • miss quick or soft sounds
  • are performing poorly at school.

Hearing Screening for Newborns Children
  • Today, In majority of newborns receive a hearing
    screening before discharge from the hospital.
  • The two types of technologies used to screen for
    hearing loss in newborns are otoacoustic
    emissions, and auditory brain stem response.While
    these screening tests can detect 80 to 90 percent
    of infants with moderate degrees of hearing loss
    and greater, it is important to understand that
    no screening test is perfect.
  • Children with mild hearing loss may pass newborn
    hearing screenings, and hearing screenings for
    newborns cannot identify children with late onset
    or progressive types of hearing loss.
