4 Grant Writing Case Study 7
- This is Case Study 7 in our tranche of articles
which give tips into the grant writing world and
the skills and techniques used by our grant
writers. - In this article we will discuss the Bowen Golf
Club and their need to irrigate some of their
fairways.
5 Grant Writing Case Study 7
- The club had installed a dam to capture and treat
their sewerage effluent water and had installed
an irrigation system to irrigate some of the
course. - The irrigation of some of the course had resulted
in greener fairways where the irrigation system
had been installed and this had resulted in far
better playing conditions and more members
joining and more competitions being played. - A number of fairways however were not irrigated
and with the Qld heat and the drought these
fairways were in less than ideal condition.
6 Grant Writing Case Study 7
- The club approached us for assistance and advice
on the best strategy to pursue to have the extra
fairways funded. - The cost of the project was going to be around
50k. - The initial strategy of our grant writer was to
identify which funding programs would be an ideal
fit for the project and if we needed to split the
project into smaller sub projects and pursue more
than one funding opportunity.
7 Grant Writing Case Study 7
- After assessing the available funding programs
through the local Council and State and Federal
Government as well as some corporate funding
opportunities we were able to identify that the
State Governments Sport and Rec Get Playing
program was an ideal fit. - The program focused on projects that increased
participation in sport and our grant writer
identified that the club had increased membership
resulting from the past irrigation installation
and therefore there was no doubt that irrigating
the extra fairways would also result in increased
participation rates.
8 Grant Writing Case Study 7
- The only issue that our grant writer identified
as a potential problem was that the club needed
to contribute 20 of the project costs to be
eligible for this grant. - After discussions with the club the grant writer
was able to be convinced that this contribution
was affordable for the club.
9 Grant Writing Case Study 7
- In undertaking the grant writing process our
grant writer set about proving beyond doubt that
this project would increase participation numbers
in the sport. - To this end the grant writer worked with the club
in surveying members and potential members as
well as encouraging the club to contact schools,
other non profit entities, businesses, retirement
villages etc to develop partnerships with these
entities and as a result encourage their
members/students to come and use the club, have a
hit of golf and maybe even join the club as a
member.
10 Grant Writing Case Study 7
- We were able to get letters of support and
commitments from these entities that they
supported the clubs project and their
members/students would use the improved
facilities and together with the surveys we were
able to prove that participation rates would soar
if the currently dry fairways were irrigated.
11 Grant Writing Case Study 7
By ensuring that our clients project would
achieve the outcomes of the funding program we
were able to present an impressive case. As a
result of our grant writing skills the club was
successful in winning this funding. Another great
achievement by the grant writing team at Red Tape
Busters.
