Title: Radiator/Heating Options for a Small Kitchen
1Radiator/Heating Options for a Small Kitchen
Kitchens in the UK are relatively small. In fact,
we have some of the smallest kitchens in the
world well hey, we arent known for our
culinary delights. Pies, toad in the whole,
sausage and mash, and fish and chips arent
particularly viewed as the best cuisine in the
world (they dont know what theyre missing,
eh?). Anyway, enough of fantasising about food
(its January and Im still on my post-Christmas
diet!). Now time to get on with the show given
our kitchens are so small, how can we heat them
without taking up valuable space by installing a
traditional horizontal radiator? Let's have a
look at some of your options.

3Electric Heater a simple heater, such as a
Dimplex heater can be all you need to heat the
kitchen. You can mount small units on the wall
and they can produce a lot of heat. The
disadvantage is that that dont necessarily have
the bricks, so you cant take advantage of night
storage. However, you probably dont spend enough
time in the kitchen for this to be an issue.
Vertical radiators this is a fantastic
choice for a small space. They produce as much
heat as horizontal radiators, but take up much
less useable space. They are slightly less
efficient than horizontal radiators are, but
because you cant fit a horizontal radiator of
the same heat output in the smaller space,
efficiency doesnt make a difference because you
aren't comparing like to like.
4Towel radiator towel radiators are generally
small, and because of the rails, they produce a
lot of heat for their size theres more surface
area. This is much like column radiators, but
towel radiators have the added bonus that it
gives you a place to store your tea towels when
theyre damp. Towel radiators are small enough to
mount on small walls, such as those that you find
near the end cupboards. Underfloor heating
this is probably the best option for all small
spaces, and maybe even all homes where its
possible to install. If youve ever walked on a
floor with underfloor heating you will know just
how lovely it is on your feet. Unfortunately,
its very expensive both to install and to
repair if it goes wrong. For this reason, its
not very popular and is generally an option used
by people who have a lot of money.

6None finally, because the kitchen doesnt get a
lot of use, and because you often have heated
elements in there (e.g. the oven, tumble dryer,
and fridge all give off heat. Yes, the fridge
does give off heat its cold inside, but it
produces energy nonetheless). For this reason,
some people dont bother with heating in the
kitchen. Unless you live in a very cold climate,
its unlikely to suffer any damage through the
lack of heat. However, this does depend, so
consult with a heating expert for more
information on your particular case. I hope
you found this article useful, and you now have a
better idea about your options for heating your
small kitchen. Are you interested in buying a
