• The cornea assists in refracting light towards
  the lens, and to achieve this the cornea has to
  be smooth and proportionately dome shaped to
  refract light to the centre of the retina through
  the lens, which lies on the inside of the eye.
  When the corneal structure is compromised, so is
  the angle of refraction and quite obviously your
  vision is too.

HOW IT AFFECTS PEOPLE

• Keratoconus affects about one in 2000 people, and
  in most cases wearing glasses or rigid contact
  lenses can treat the early stages of the
  condition. However, if the condition is caught

How tests are performed

• The main test used in diagnosing Keratoconus is
  one that digitally captures the curvature of the
  eye. The test is conducted by focusing light on
  the eye and measuring the angle of the light
  reflected back. This is known as computerized
  corneal mapping. The diagram produced creates a
  topographical map of the makeup and structure of
  the eye.
