2
Laura Deleruyelle is an advanced practice nurse
who is working hard to warn people about the
dangers of sugar. Among these dangers is the
relationship that sugar shares with insulin.
Excess sugar consumption has been linked with
insulin resistance. Insulin resistance issues are
believed to play a big part in many diseases,
including obesity, cardiovascular disease, and of
course, diabetes. This is mostly typical in
Western diets, as they tend to be high in
carbohydrates and calories. By learning to stay
away from high sugar intakes, opting for more
plant-based and fish protein and low-fat diets,
we can lead happier and longer lives.
3
Laura Deleruyelle notes that the real problem
with excess sugar consumption occurs when people
lead very inactive lifestyles but still consume
large amounts of sugar. This causes a lot of
fructose to bombard the liver, overloading it and
forcing it to turn that excess fructose into fat.
It also causes the body to build resistance
against insulin, which help cells use glucose.
Too much glucose in the body can be toxic and
cause things like blindness and even death.
4
Laura Deleruyelle emphasizes that only by arming
ourselves with the proper education and making
good diet and exercise choices can we hope to
battle the sugar epidemic. This can improve the
lifespan substantially of those willing to adhere
by a sugar-free lifestyle. This is because many
studies have shown that excess sugar consumption
is directly linked to the development of insulin
resistance. Without insulin working in the body,
you can suffer brain damage, or slip into a coma
and die.
5
Laura Deleruyelle has observed that diabetes is
also becoming a more common disease thanks to
increasingly sedentary lifestyles and more
carbohydrate dominant food choices. That is why
it is so important to spread awareness about the
harmful effects of sugar. It is important to note
however, that it is very difficult to overload
the liver using sugars obtained from fruit, as
they simply do not have a high enough density of
sugars to produce the fructose necessary for you
to do so.
