2Six Tips for becoming an Early Bird
- The early bird catches the worm. That saying
might seem a bit outdated, but it still holds
some validity, especially in the life of a
freelancer. Many freelancers are night owls, but
that is often neither productive nor healthy.
Waking up in the small hours of the day will seem
like a burden at first. When you get into the
habit of it, however, it feels much better than
tolling away at your computer after midnight. - If you would like to shake up your schedule a bit
by starting your day earlier keep reading. Here
are six easy to follow steps towards becoming an
early bird
3Six Tips for becoming an Early Bird
41) Stick to the schedule
- First of all, if you want to start waking up
early, half measures arent going to cut it. Set
your alarm for the preferred time and abide to
it. This includes going to bed at the right time,
too. A typical healthy sleep can be anywhere
between six and eight hours, depending on the
person. Find out what works for you and stick to
it.
52) Wake up with music
- Tip number two is a personal recommendation of
mine. Waking up to my favorite tunes never fails
to cheer me up and get me ready for the day.
Alarm sounds can be annoying and associating
waking up with a negative emotion is not a good
idea. Listening to some music for a couple of
minutes before coming from underneath the covers
can do wonders for you.
63) Place your wake-up device away from the bed
- Whether you wake up with your phone, have a radio
alarm clock or any other wake-up device, keep it
away from your bed. Shutting it off and
convincing your sleepy brain that you are
absolutely only going to shut your eyes for
another five minutes has caused a lot of people
being late.
74) Stop hitting the snooze button
- The arch enemy of waking up early is the snooze
button. It is so tempting to press it over and
over again. But while it feels satisfying at the
moment, its not really doing you any good. You
cant fall into a deep sleep for 10 minutes.
Personally, I feel much more tired if I wake up
after pressing the snooze button a couple of
times than if I just get up at the first sound of
my alarm.
85) Dont fall asleep with your laptop or other
electronic device
- Watching some TV, YouTube videos or surfing
around on your tablet before bed is another
pretty bad habit some people have. The constant
light and noise will often prevent you from
having a healthy sleep and annoy you when waking
up. Turn those computers off or at least make
sure they go into sleep mode themselves.
96) Have something to look forward to in the
morning
- Last but not least work on some positive
reinforcement. Have something that you love
standing up for. For me, its music. A good
breakfast is another think I look forward to
every morning. Some people do exercise. Whatever
it is, have something to do in the morning that
makes you feel good. Once you get into the habit
of repeating that action early, you will want to
get out of bed just so you can do it.
