The Outsider

• Using one consistent theme The Outsider, I will
  pick different genres and explain who the
  outsider might be in each one.

Sci-Fi

• In the sci-fi genre it is usually an alien that
  is the outsider, such as Paul or E.T.
• This is because sci-fi often involves space
  travel, giving people the opportunity to
  encounter new life forms.
• One other example of an outsider in sci-fi could
  be a time traveller who is out of touch in the
  time the film is set in, such as George from
  Time Machine.

Horror Genre

• The outsider in a horror film is usually the
  villain and a murderer.
• Sometimes the outsider might have a physical
  deformity in a horror film, such as Freddy
  Krueger from a Nightmare on Elm Street.

Action

• In an action film the outsider is usually quite
  physically weak but intelligent. They are quite
  often the villain who uses their intelligence for
  evil, and the main character must battle them.
  Other than this the outsider might be slightly
  crazy, but still intelligent. Examples of these
  would be Aldrich Killian from Iron Man 3 or the
  Joker from The Dark Knight.

Comedy

• Outsiders in a comedy are often considered the
  normal character amongst others that are stupid
  or strange. This character is also usually the
  protagonist. An example of this is Peter La Fleur
  from Dodgeball.
