Introduction
  • Gum disease is the swelling, pain or infection of
    the tissues supporting the teeth.
  • Gingivitis periodontal disease are two types of
    gum disease.

  • Gingivitis means inflammation of the gums while
    Periodontitis means inflammation around the
    tooth.
  • Both are a serious gum infection that damages the
    soft tissue bone that supports the tooth.

What Is Periodontal Disease?
  • Periodontal diseases are infections of the
    structures around the teeth
  • These include the gums, the cementum that covers
    the root and the alveolar bone.
  • In the earliest stage of periodontal disease the
    infection affects only the gums.
  • Diseases are the causal cause of tooth loss in
    adults children.

What Is gingivitis Disease?
  • Gingivitis means inflammation of the gums.
  • In gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and
    can bleed easily.
  • It is a mild form of gum disease that can usually
    be reversed with daily brushing flossing.

  • Gum disease is mostly caused by improper oral
    hygiene which allows bacteria in plaque and
    calculus to remain on the teeth and infect the
    gums.
  • But there are other factors that increase the
    risk of developing gingivitis.
