Employers increasingly offer consumer-driven
health plans, survey suggests. The Triangle
Business Journal (8/20) reports, "A new survey by
UBA, shows that participation in
consumer-driven health plans is becoming an
increasingly popular health insurance option."
After surveying "18,019 health plans sponsored by
12,860 employers," UBA found that "the total
number of consumer-driven health plans has
increased this year by 43 percent over 2007."
Consumer-driven health plans "now account for
nearly 13 percent of all plans offered by
employers." According to the survey, consumer
participation increased by 5 percent as well. UBA
found that so far this year, "employers have
contributed an average of 1,209 to health
reimbursement accounts for single employees and
2,274 to family plans." While preferred provider
organizations accounted for "54 percent of all
