Definition

• 1.5 generation is defined as
• Those who were NOT born in US
• Those who entered US prior to age 17
• Those who defined themselves as being Korean in
  American Community Survey (ACS) conducted by the
  Census Bureau

Backgrounds 1.5 Generation

• As 2004, the United States Census Bureau had
  counted
• 300,991 1.5 generation Koreans
• 52.5 female
• Average age of 24
• 31.2 under 17 0.7 over 55

• Among 18 and over, 51.1 are single and 42.5 are
  married
• Between the ages of 18 and 30, 86.5 of Men and
  66.9 of Women are Single.
• 64.1 are U.S. citizens
• On the average, 1.5 Generation Koreans have been
  in US for 17.6 years

• - 281,459 2nd Generation Koreans
• - 47.3 Female
• - Average Age is 16.8
• 60.4 under 17 2.9 over 55

• 78.5 of 1.5 Generation Koreans only speak
  English or speak English very well.
• 61.7 of 1.5 Generation Koreans over 25 years old
  have college degrees or more.

• 58.8 of 2nd Generation Koreans over 25 years old
  have college degrees or more.
