because The sun has a larger surface area to
heat in the higher latitudes so the heat is more
dispersed and climates are cooler.

Sapporo is on the northern island of Hokkaido. I
would recommend packing thermal underwear, thick
woollen sweaters, warm boots and a thick overcoat
especially in winter as they are very cold.
Temperatures of 5 in January are often
experienced as cold air blows in from Asia.
