Title: WALK BY FAITH

1
WALK BY FAITH
  • For We Walk by Faith, not by
    Sight (2 Corinthians 57)

2
  • What Does it Mean to You to
    Walk by Faith?

3
To Walk by Faith, We Rely not on What We See, but
What We Know from Gods Word.
  • To walk by sight is to rely solely on that
which is physical and put our trust in the things
    of this world.

4
  • 2 Cor 416-18 (NASU) 16 Therefore we do not lose
heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet
our inner man is being renewed day by day. 17 For
momentary, light affliction is producing for us
an eternal weight of glory far beyond all
comparison, 18 while we look not at the things
which are seen, but at the things which are not
seen for the things which are seen are temporal,
but the things which are not seen are eternal.

5
  • There is great temptation to focus only on the
physical things that we can see, hear, taste,
    touch, or smell .
  • We are warned not to love the world or walk after
the things of the world (1 John 215-16).
  • Many desire miracles today as visible proof to
    believe in God.
  • Many base their faith on their feelings, yet such
    is unreliable (Prov. 1412).

6
To walk by faith is to rely on what we know
from the Scriptures.
  • 2 Cor. 51-4 (NASU) For we know that if the
earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we
have a building from God, a house not made with
hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For
indeed in this house we groan, longing to be
clothed with our dwelling from heaven, 3 inasmuch
as we, having put it on, will not be found naked.
4 For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan,
being burdened, because we do not want to be
unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is
mortal will be swallowed up by life.

7
  • The apostles knew, by inspiration of God, that an
immortal body is made by God for every Christian
    (2 Cor. 51 Eph. 34-5).
  • Such confidence in our salvation, while living in
a decaying body, comes by walking by faith, not
    by sight (Gal 220).
  • True assurance or solid faith is established in
our hearts by the hearing of Gods word (Rom.
1017) (our faith is not blind nor is it by
    sight).

8
  • Though we do not literally see the spiritual
realities and eternal future, we have the
evidence we need from Gods word (Heb. 111).
  • Rather than depend on our physical senses, we use
the Word as our guide (2 Tim. 316-17).
  • The joy of salvation greatly depends on looking
at the unseen (1 Pet. 18-9).

9
To Walk by Faith, We Put Our Trust in God Who
Gave Us the Scriptures.
  • Walking by faith is not mere knowledge of Gods
word, only to doubt God in daily living!
  • Examples Mat. 2816-20 Mark 437-41

10
Walking by faith requires not only knowing Gods
word, but trusting in Him who gave it.
  • 2 Cor. 55-8 (NASU) 5 Now He who prepared us for
this very purpose is God, who gave to us the
Spirit as a pledge. 6 Therefore, being always of
good courage, and knowing that while we are at
home in the body we are absent from the Lord 7
for we walk by faith, not by sight 8 we are of
good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be
absent from the body and to be at home with the
    Lord.

11
What do you put your trust in from day to day?
(e.g., 1 Cor. 24-5).
  • Example The preaching of Gods word (1 Cor.
    35-7 1558 Luke 811-15).
  • For true confidence, to walk by faith each day,
we must put trust in God who gave us the
knowledge and many wonderful promises in His word
    (e.g., Abraham Rom. 417-21).

12
To Walk by Faith, We Make it Our Sole Ambition to
Please the Lord.
  • Walking by faith is not mere mental assent that
God exists or that Jesus is real (James 218-24).
  • To walk by faith, our conduct or manner of life
will be faithful in which we make it our aim to
please the Lord in all we do!

13
  • 2 Cor. 59-10 (NASU) 9 Therefore we also have as
our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be
pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before
the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may
be recompensed for his deeds in the body,
according to what he has done, whether good or
    bad.
  • Walking by faith is to take every step in life in
    obedience to Gods word!
  • We do so, knowing that God will hold us
accountable for our deeds (2 Cor. 510).

14
  • Walking by faith is to not take a step without
first considering what Gods will is on the
    matter (Eph. 515-17).
  • We strive to please God in everything we do
because that what is walking by faith involves,
WHAT SALVATION REQUIRES We live by faith, not
    merely possess it!

15
  • Heb. 1038-39 (NASB) But My righteous one shall
live by faith And if he shrinks back, My soul
has no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of
those who shrink back to destruction, but of
those who have faith to the preserving of the
    soul.
