BIOLOGICAL EVOLUTION OF MAN
3
As humans, how will you show respect to each
stages of man and with their contribution in the
society?
4
EVOLUTION
It refers to the changes that occur in a
population over time. In this definition,
population refers to the group of the same
species that share a specific location and
habitat.
5
HOW EVOLUTION TAKES PLACE?
6
  • Evolution takes place because there are
variations in every species of organisms
  • It is because of scarcity in supplies and the
growing population tend to compete to the limited
    resources
  • This competition may eventually result in deaths
for some individuals while others may be able to
preserve themselves and continue their existence

7
HOW CAN YOU CONSIDER MAN AS RELATIVES OF MONKEYS?
8
HUMANS BELONG TO THE ORDER OF PRIMATE
9
ANTHROPOIDS
It includes the apes, man, and monkeys and the
Prosimians which includes the lemur, tarsier, and
other pre-monkeys.

Why did primate descend from trees and began
living in the ground?
17
THREE PROBLEMS
  • Knuckle Walking It is roaming around using his
hands in walking which made it difficult for him
    to do other tasks. (Bipedal)
  • Predators - Abound in the savannas and this was a
grave concern for a primate, especially during
    sleeping time. (Shelter)
  • Plants - Being scattered over a large expanse of
land in the savannas than in the forest lands.

18
THE TWO CATEGORIES OF HOMINIDS
19
  • Australopithecus
  • Homo

20
  • Australopithecus are also known as the Southern
    Apes
  • It was discovered by Raymond Dart in South Africa
    in 1925
  • They tended to have longer arms that seemed
    well-suited to climbing
  • Their facial features looked more ape-like than
human, with sloping faces, and jutting jaws.
  • Some of the remains that were unearthed include
    Australopithecus Africanus, Australopithecus
    Robustus, and Australopithecus Afarensis.

21
Lucy was the famous fossil of Australopithecus
Afarensis. She stood four feet tall in between
19-21 years old. She was a Bipedal, had hands
similar to that of a human and a brain comparable
to the size of Chimpanzee.

HOMO HABILIS (ABLE MAN)
24
  • They are bipedal
  • They possessed an opposable thumb that
facilitated efficient handling of things and
    creating tools
  • They also have smaller teeth and jaws and more
    modern looking feet.

HOMO ERECTUS
27
  • Homo Erectus possessed much larger brain, stood
at around feet and 6 inches.
  • They are also the first human species to have a
    wide and fleshy nose.
  • The face was flat and the skull had prominent
ridges over the brow and they had shorter arms.
  • Their longer legs were better suited to running
    and walking long distances.

HOMO SAPIENS
31
  • They were also called as Wise or Intelligent Man
because they discovered sophisticated control of
    fire.
  • Cave art also began to be produced about 40,000
years ago in Europe and Australia.
  • Burials in the past were infrequent and very
simple prior to 40,000 years ago.
  • Modern Humans are called Homo Sapiens Sapiens
because of their ability to speak and communicate.

32
OVER TIME, WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF HUMANS
THAT HAVE EVOLVED?
33
  • Human brains are larger and more complex.
  • People have elaborate forms of communication and
    culture.
  • People habitually walk upright, can speak, and
    can manipulate very small objects.
