World War I

• WWI began with the assassination of the
  Austria-Hungarian prince Franz Ferdinand.
• Outrages by this Austria, Germany and the Ottoman
  empire declared War on Serbia.
• In response to the Russia proceeded to declare
  war on Germany and its allies and Great Britain
  and France honored it alliance with Russia and
  proceeded to do the same.

WWI (cont.)

• Before long the war turned to a Germany Vs. the
  Allies kind of war.
• Because of this, Germany was forced to wage a two
  front war. This lead to a lack of man power and
  ultimately and Allied victory.

Peace to end all Peace

• Following the German surrender, The treaty or
  Versailles was written up in hopes of obtaining
  peace forever.

Hitler comes into power

• Following WWI, Germany suffered a severe
  depression.
• In response to this, Germany fell into the hands
  of the Gifted speaker Adolf Hitler.

Rise of the NAZI party

• Hitler was the leader of the National socialist
  party.
• Throughout the 1930s this party gained control
  of German Parliament and appointed Hitler as
  Supreme Chancellor.

Appeasement

• Once Hitler gained power he began to have
  ambitions of gaining Germanys lost lands.
• He began with the annexation of the Rhineland.
  He was given resistance form the democratic world
  but Neville Chamberlain offered Hitler the land
  in hopes he would be happy with it and leave.

Further German aggressions

• Once Hitler gained the Rhineland, Hitler turned
  his sights on Austria, Czechoslovakia, and parts
  of Poland.
• He got these with little resistance.

WWII begins

• On the morning of September 1, 1939 Germany
  invaded Poland.
• Germanys fast paced warfare was known as
  Blitzkrieg. Using this Germany quickly took
  control of most of Europe.

D-Day

• On June 6, 1944, The Allies finally launched a
  successful counter attack.
• By storming the beaches of Normandy, The allies
  were able to push back the Germans.
• This was the beginning of the end for Germany

The End

• In April of 1945, The allied forced reached the
  German capital.
• In a last effort to show how much of a coward he
  was Hitler killed himself by taking cyanide and
  shooting himself.

Post WWII Germany

• After the war was over, Germany was divided into
  4 militarized zones to be given to the British,
  The French, The Americans, And The wonderful
  Soviets.
• Germany stayed divided until 1989 and remained
  out of war until they told us we could not invade
  Iraq. Whats up with that?
