STUDENT/PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE/INTERVIEWS
  • Conferences occur when parents, their child and
    the teacher meet to discuss the students
    learning.
  • The meeting involves all participants equally
    with the teacher chairing the meeting.
  • The students learning strengths and weaknesses
    are discussed.
  • Learning goals for the next term are set with the
    student, parent and teacher recording how each is
    going to help the student achieve the goal.
  • These conferences are opportunities for students
    to share their learning with their parents.
  • Students are prepared to share their learning and
    parents are asked to interact and respond to
    their child.

Steps in Conducting a Student Led Conference
  • Step 1
  • Inform parents via letter or newsletter
  • Step 2
  • Before the conference, student and teacher meet
    to discuss the portfolio and specifically review
    students reflections and goal setting (handout).
    They need to practice showing their parents their
    work. The students and teacher need to discuss
    how the sharing will occur.

  • Junior grade newsletter
  • Include classroom news, what is happening in each
    subject, reminder of needs (gym clothes, forms,
    pizza money etc.), thank you s, upcoming events
  • Include a calendar with notable dates
  • Include a tear off portion that parents can
    return to indicate that they received the
    newsletter
  • Junior age students LOVE to author the
    newsletter. Have a brainstorming session to
    develop ideas about what should be included and
    then assign or allow students to choose what
    component they would like to be responsible for.
