Science

• Science- A way of learning about the natural
  world through observation and logical reasoning.
  Scientists attempt to understand the world around
  you. Successful scientists possess certain
  attitudes, or habits of mind.

• Scientific Inquiry refers to the many ways in
  which scientists study the natural world and try
  to explain it with what they find.
• (Scientific Method)
• Posing a question or stating a problem.
• Form a Hypothesis - educated guess to a problems
  solution.
• Experimenting testing your hypothesis Controlle

  what it was supposed to?)
• 6. Communicate the results (Publish a book or
  paper, Post it on the Internet, Give a lecture,
  etc.

• Graphing is visually representing data
• Types of graphs include
• Line most common in science
• Bar uses bars
• Pie sometimes called circle
• Pictorial uses pictures

Section 1-2 The Study of Earth Science

• Earth Science consists of these areas
• Structure of the Earth Atmosphere, Hydrosphere,
  Biosphere, Lithosphere.
• Earths History.
• Earth in the Solar System.

Branches of Earth Science

• Geology - study of Earth, its history, structure,
  origin.
• Meteorology - study of the Earths atmosphere,
  weather, and climate.
• Oceanography - study of the Earths oceans,
  their physical features, life forms, and natural
  resources.
• Astronomy - study of space, stars, planets,
  satellites, and their position, size, and
  composition.
• Environmental Science study the environment and
  resources, along with pollution.

• Technology changing the world around you to
  meet your needs.
• Its goal is to improve the way people live.
• It has had a large impact on society
• Engineer a person who is trained in both
  technology and scientific knowledge.

Section 1-4 Lab Safety

• Good preparation helps you stay safe when doing
  science activities in the lab.
• Safety symbols are on page 25.
• Main rule to always follow
• Always listen to the teacher and follow
  directions, notify the teacher of any accidents
  immediately.
• Safety in the field is just as important.

• Based on powers of 10 (like money)
• Measurements include

• temperature celsius
