History of Asbestos
  • Naturally occurring mineral that separates into
    strong, very fine fibers
  • Extremely durable
  • Very heat resistant
  • Great construction material

Properties of Asbestos
  • Breaks into microscopic fibers
  • Easily inhaled
  • Penetrates, remains in body for many years
  • Can cause lung cancer, mesothelioma, and
    asbestosis 20-40 years after exposure
  • Since 1900, over 30 million tons of asbestos were
    put in place
