beneficial and participation may increase and
vice versa

incidents turn society against them.

7WHY HAVE WOMEN PARTICIPATED LESS THAN MEN IN
SPORT?
- Traditionally women did not take part in sport
their roles were of a wife and mother. - Not many leisure centres used to offer creche
facilities. - There has been a shortage of role models
- Little media coverage has been given to womens
sports. - Womens sports have found it harder to gain
sponsorship
8WHY HAS PARTICIPATION INCREASED?
- Women are earning more and can afford membership
to clubs - More female role models on TV as presenters,
performers, coaches. - Increased media coverage
- Equal opportunities cannot be discriminated
against female football and snooker officials - Increased opportunities for women
- E.g. 1993 500 womens football team
- 2001 4500 womens football team
