  • Society may view some activities as desirable and
    beneficial and participation may increase and
    vice versa

WHY HAVE WOMEN PARTICIPATED LESS THAN MEN IN
SPORT?
  • Traditionally women did not take part in sport
    their roles were of a wife and mother.
  • Not many leisure centres used to offer creche
    facilities.
  • There has been a shortage of role models
  • Little media coverage has been given to womens
    sports.
  • Womens sports have found it harder to gain
    sponsorship

  • Women are earning more and can afford membership
    to clubs
  • More female role models on TV as presenters,
    performers, coaches.
  • Increased media coverage
  • Equal opportunities cannot be discriminated
    against female football and snooker officials
  • Increased opportunities for women
  • E.g. 1993 500 womens football team
  • 2001 4500 womens football team
