GOAL

• Reduce the incidence of diabetes, and related
  chronic disease among American Indian youth in
  the Tulsa Metro Surrounding Area.

Objectives

• 1. AI child and youth participants will gain the
  knowledge, attitudes, behavior skills, and
  confidence needed to adopt and maintain healthy
  physically active lifestyles as demonstrated by
  completion of a health education module.
• 2. AI child and youth participants will
  participate in regular physical activity as
  demonstrated by enrollment in active
  participation in organized physical activity
  programs.
• 3. Involvement of children, youth and families in
  healthy and character building activities
  demonstrated by participation in preventive
  health and youth development programs such as
  Healthy Trails camp, Campfire Community Family
  Club, Boys Girls Clubs, and Native Nations
  Youth Council.
• 4. Cultural awareness, understanding,
  appreciation and enrichment of Indian ways that
  support healthy and active lifestyles among AI
  child and youth will be promoted as demonstrated
  by completion of cultural curricula activities.
• 5. The long term sustainability of community
  level interventions to promote healthy and active
  lifestyles as demonstrated by the development of
  an action plan for year 2 and 3 implementation by
  Native Nation Youth Council and other
  collaborative partners of the program.
