• There remains a widespread belief in the
  curative powers of certain plants or animal parts
  shaped or colored like the diseased part of the
  body hence, red poppies for blood disorder,
  spotted plants for skin eruptions, and trefoil
  plants for heart trouble.

Simple Background Information

• Pre-literate societies were very close to the
  environment that surrounded them.
• Since the use of plants was so frequent, names
  were given to classify them.
• Examples Shaman or Brujo of American Tropics.

• Describe plant so that others could recognize it.
• Classify it as harmful or useful
• Identify other individual plants that could be
  put in this division
• Give a name that it could easily be referred to.
