Vision of the EU

• The European Commission envisages the creation
  of a European digital library a unique resource
  for Europe's distributed cultural heritage,
  ensuring a common access to millions of great
  paintings, historical writings, ancient
  manuscripts, diaries of the known and unknown,
  personal photos and national documents from
  Europe's libraries, archives and museums.

Demand, not supply driven

• For the users
• it is not important whether the sources of
  knowledge and experience are kept by archives,
  libraries or museums,
• but to get access to the sources they want,
• and to be able to use re- use these sources
  across types of sources and sectors of
  institutions.

  films, photographs, manuscripts, and other
  cultural works - multilingual searchable and
  usable
