Voting Machine?
  • Voting machines are the total combination of
    mechanical, electromechanical, or electronic

maintain and produce any audit trail information.

The beginning!
  • The first voting machines where mechanical ,
  • paper ballot system
  • First adopted in the Australian state of Victoria
in 1856, and stayed for several years. Later New
York became the first American State to adopt the
paper ballot for statewide elections in 1889.
  • One of the biggest
    problem is counting
  • the ballots.

Future
  • In February 1975, the General Accounting Offices
Office of Federal Elections signed an interagency
agreement with the National Bureau of Standards
to ensure the accuracy and security of the
    computer-based voting process.
  • Optical scanners and touch-screen machines with
and without paper trails. Together, the three
systems account for 80 of the voting machines
    that will be used today.

Problems and Concerns
  • There are more than 120 security threats to the
three most commonly purchased electronic voting
    systems.
  • Using corrupt software to switch votes from one
    candidate to another
  • The most voting machines use wireless, which is
open to attack by virtually any member of the
public with some knowledge and a personal digital
assistant. Only New York, Minnesota and
    California ban wireless components.
  • Most states have not implemented election
procedures or countermeasures to detect software
    attacks.

6
Why you must vote !
  • Elected individual's make numerous decisions
    effecting your life
  • If you do not vote, there is no reason to
complain about the way government is spending
YOUR tax dollars or deciding what you can and can
    not do
  • Voting is your voice. Voting is a chance to
'tell' the government how you feel
