2006/07 Budget Highlights
  • Total state budget 128 billion
  • UG systemwide fees - frozen at both UC and CSU
    CCC fees - 6 (20/unit)
  • Cal Grants - two years at 8,322 - new students
    now receiving 9,708 (11.9 million)
  • CSAC total budget 882 million
  • Authorization and funding of 100 NG APLE
    warrants, 100 State Nursing APLE warrants and 40
    Nurses in State Facilities APLE warrants.

2007/2008 State Budget Assumptions
  • Beginning budget year with approximately 5
    billion structural deficit
  • Administration and Legislatures priority is
    health care coverage for 6 million uninsured.
  • Increasing costs with state employee pensions,
    prisons, recently passed bonds.
  • K-12 guaranteed 6 billion

  • IPA review for June 07 adoption by schools
    final draft to the Commission by April meeting
  • Interest Bearing Accounts will now be required
    via the IPA

  • Family of 6 - Cal A (84,600) Cal B (46,500)
  • Family of 5 - Cal A (78,400) Cal B (43,000)
  • Family of 4 - Cal A (73,200) Cal B (38,500)
  • Cal Grant Workshops - need volunteers!

Relevant Legislation - 2006
  • AB 358 (Liu) - reinstates a long-term policy on
    the adjustment of the CG award for students at
    independent colleges (Vetoed)
  • AB 840 (Arambula) - protects students grants
    that were awarded due to a CSAC error requires
    10 verification (by sector) of CGTE recipients
    (Signed)
  • AB 751 (Chu) - creates a regulatory framework for
    oversight of private, financial aid consultants
    via CSAC (Vetoed)
  • AB 2813 (De La Torre) - increases the age cap for
    the CGTE program from 24 to 27 (Signed)
