Early Learning Coalition of Lake County
  • FOUNDATIONS.WHY?
  • Presented by
  • William Pruitt, ELCLC Board Chair

2
Foundations..Why?
  • Foundations can be used to secure dollars for
  • 6 Match
  • Early Learning Initiatives which are not funded
    by SR or VPK dollars.
  • Increased and/or continued need within the
    community.

3
ELCLC Foundation
  • On April 20, 2006 the ELCLC Board of Directors
    voted to establish a Non-Profit, 501 c(3) Early
    Learning Foundation.
  • Through the efforts of Foundation Board Members
and volunteers, the communities of Lake County
will receive additional funds towards early
    learning initiatives.

4
One Vision
  • One vision for the Early Learning Foundation of
Lake County is for all teachers to have the
opportunity to pursue an education in the early
    learning career field.

5
Our Commitment
  • To provide quality programs to the children and
    families in Lake County.
  • To provide educational opportunities to child
    care providers teachers.
  • To collaborate with local Colleges Universities
to design and develop programs that will enhance
the early learning initiatives in Lake County.

6
Our Goal
  • To get ahead of the projected demand of degreed
    teachers by 2012.
  • To build the industry by providing opportunities
so that all teachers will know the developmental
stages of a childs growth from birth to 5 years.

7
Our Reason
  • Preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school
teachers play a vital role in the development of
children. What children learn and experience
during their early years can shape their views of
themselves and the world and can affect their
later success or failure in school, work, and
    their personal lives.

Who Benefits?
  • Child care programs
  • Child care programs benefit by having staff
members who are more knowledgeable about good
    early childhood practices. Programs will
experience reduced turnover which increases the
quality and marketability of the program.
  • Participants
  • Teachers, directors and family child care
providers increase their knowledge as they attend
classes and in turn, they experience increased
    professional status and job satisfaction.
  • Children
  • Children are the main beneficiaries. Children
benefit by having consistent caregivers with a
commitment to the field. They benefit from
caregivers who are specialists in early childhood
education, who understand child development and
who are sensitive to the needs of very young
    children.
