Evacuation

• Children who lived in cities and large towns
  that were being invaded or bombed, would be sent
  to safer places like the country side.

How do you travel?

• When evacuated you might travel with a member
  of your family and then get separated as you were
  getting off the train. But lots of people
  travelled with strangers and had to stay with
  them. Some lucky people got to stay with close
  family and relatives.

When you are there

• You would get a bed to sleep in and get fed
  food, lots of people had a wonderful time. But
  some unfortunate people (Jewish people) were
  treated horribly. They had to work really hard,
  for almost nothing in return! But the worst part
  was they were treated like that because of their
  religion!

The Phoney War

• When a loud siren sounded, thousands of
  children and some adults were evacuated in a
  phoney war. This was where people were
  evacuated but there was no war! The Germans did
  this so they could have a surprise attack!

The end of the war

• At the end of the war, when the evacuees had
  returned home and the men in the army came back,
  everyone celebrated. This was called V.E. Day(
  Victory in Europe). Not all the evacuees survived
  but it was a moment to remember!
