  • 1950s - VA Became First Organization to Mail
    Rx.
  • 1974 - Consolidation of Mail Rx Processing
    Initiated at VAMC, West Los Angeles,
    CA.
  • 1992 - GAO Report/VA Modernize Mail Rx
    System
  • 1994 - First Prescription Dispensed at
    Initial Automated
  • VA CMOP in Leavenworth, KS.
  • 1999 - VA CMOP Service Fully Implemented.
  • 2002 - VA/DoD pilot of CMOP Initiated.
  • 2007 - VA CMOP Reorganization.

National CMOP Organization-2007
  • Deputy Chief Consultant-PBM/CMOP for Operations
    New position established to provide leadership
    and direction to CMOP Directors and operational
    positions.
  • Deputy Chief Consultant-PBM/CMOP for Planning and
    Program Development Former National CMOP
    Director position changed to focus on planning
    and developing programs, especially with
    customers external to VA.

CMOP Mission
  • Serve as a virtual extension of each
    participating VISN, medical center, CBOC, MTF or
    other approved healthcare facility.
  • Provide mail prescription dispensing service for
    those participating sites.
  • Accept electronic prescription data stream from
    sites.
  • Complete actual dispensing of product and ship
    directly to patient.
  • Dynamic return of electronic prescription
    dispensing data to participating sites.

    Tucson Chelmsford activated 2007.

  • Murfreesboro (TN) Approved for lease space in
    area. Contracting for new system within 12
    months. Separate CS CMOP in existing space.
  • Additional CMOP Business case updated,
    recommending 8th CMOP in Northwest.

ChampVA Meds-by-Mail

    Meds-by-Mail (MbM).

    organizationally align under PBM/CMOP within next
    15 months.

ChampVA Meds by Mail
  • Meds by Mail provides a safe, easy and cost-free
    way for eligible beneficiaries to receive
    non-urgent maintenance medications delivered
    right to their home.
  • Beneficiaries who are covered by Other Health
    Insurance (OHI) which includes prescription drug
    coverage are not eligible to participate in the
    MbM Program. Medicare Part D (prescription drug
    coverage) is considered OHI.

  • Department of Defense Continued dialogue and
    meetings. Memorandum of Understanding drafted
    and in review.
  • Bureau of Prisons Continued dialogue and email
    exchange of documents. Interagency Agreement
    drafted and in review.

    meetings. Interagency agreement drafted and in
    review.
