High School Class Designations
  • At EHS, there are no more REMEDIAL classes.
  • All students will be enrolled in College Prep
    classes.
  • Designed for all students who want to meet the
    requirements and be prepared for college after
    high school.

  • Calculation of GPA-maximum 4.0

Honors Classes
  • Honors courses are designed to meet the learning
    needs of gifted (GATE) and high-achieving
    students.
  • Honors classes are challenging and engage the
    student with more depth and complexity, thus
    requiring more time and energy on classwork and
    homework.
  • Students who are designated at GATE students may
    enroll in the Honors classes.
  • Each campus has a GATE coordinator/counselor who
    will meet with the parents and student to
    determine level of interest, strengths, etc. to
    create class schedules.
  • GPA is calculated on a 5-point scale
  • A-5 points
  • B-4 points
  • C-3 points
  • Grades below a C- result in academic probation

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
  • Classes that are taken at the high school that
    emulate college courses in their curriculum.
  • These courses are designed by a national
    non-profit organization, the College Board, which
    also administers other programs like the SAT.
  • Quite rigorous, and students have the opportunity
    at the end of these courses to take an exam which
    could earn them college credit.
  • Students do not need to be GATE identified or
    complete any testing for these courses. They
    need to fill out an application which will be
    reviewed to ensure the student is prepared for
    the course.

  • Students with advanced skills in a particular
    area.
  • Students with high interest or passion in a
    particular area.
  • Students desiring a rigorous academic experience
    for excellent college preparation.

CAHSEE
  • The CDE (California Department of Education)
    provides study guides for this test, as well as
    information about the test.
  • There are also released questions that you can
    download to help your child prepare and practice
    for the test.

  • What does the test cover?
  • English Language Arts/ Mathematics
  • What grade levels are tested?
  • ELA covers the foundational skills taught in
    middle school up to 10th grade
  • Math covers grades 6, 7, and Algebra I
  • What type of questions are on the test?
  • ELA has 79 multiple choice questions as well as
    an essay question
  • Math has 92 multiple choice questions

FAQs about the CAHSEE
  • When will my child first take the CAHSEE?
  • During 10th grade
  • What is a passing score?
  • 350 or higher (60 ELA and 55 Math)
  • If one test is passed, it does not have to be
    retaken.
  • How many times can he/she take the test?
  • 10th grade - 1 time
  • 11th grade - up to 2 times
  • 12th grade - up to 5 times

  • How are the results given?
  • Results are mailed
  • The State does not keep copies, so keep them
    SAFE!!
  • What if my child doesnt pass the test by 12th
    grade?
  • CJUHSD does not issue a diploma nor a
    certificate of completion
  • The State mandates that intensive instruction and
    services for up to two consecutive academic years
    after completion of 12th grade or until the
    student passes both parts. Check with EHS.
