Graphing Marshmallows
  • Today you will be using Lucky Charms to complete
    this graphing exercise!
  • The skills you will use are
  • Counting
  • Building and interpreting graphs
  • The use of Microsoft excel
  • The use of Microsoft Word
  • Computation
  • Predictions

Step 1
  • I have passed out sandwich bag of Lucky Charms
    and a piece of wax paper to each and every one of
    you.
  • Open your bag of cereal and begin separating the
    marshmallows by type on your wax paper.
  • Example. Red balloons, Purple horse shoe, etc.
  • Use the picture as a guide

Step 2
  • Open the word document that I have provided and
    begin working on the tally sheet.
  • Lucky Charms Tally Sheet.doc
  • Be sure to save your work

Step 3
  • Return back to the word document you have saved
    and in the space provided follow the prediction
    instructions.
  • Make a prediction of which Lucky Charm you think
    will occur the most for the entire class.

  • Now that you have determined how many individual
    marshmallows you have, open the Microsoft Excel
    document, I have giving you.
  • excel doc.xls
  • First in column A write the type of marshmallows
  • Second in column B write the amount you had
  • Third create a graph that demonstrates your
    findings
  • The graph should be color coordinated with the
    color of the marshmallows
  • open this document for reference and a visual
    guide

Step 5
  • Now that you have completed the graph for your
    marshmallows you need to answer questions 1-3. I
    have provided for you in this word document.
  • Click HERE to open the document
  • Make sure you save work

Step 6
  • Now that you have finished your own personal
    graph we will begin to create a class wide graph.
  • Open this excel document. class wide graph.xls
  • As soon as we have all the accounted marshmallows
    you are to create a class wide graph
  • The graph should follow the same rules as your
    individual graph except with larger numbers

Step 7
  • Now that you have completed the class wide graph
    you should be able to answer the rest of the
    questions 4-7 in your word document that you
    should have saved.
