2Erev Shabbat This is how Jews start the
celebration of Shabbat. Look at the pictures and
decide how they celebrate.
Blessed are you Lord our God, Ruler of the
Universe, who creates the fruit of the vine
Think about how people worship.
O Lord our God, King of the universe, Who has
made us holy by your commandments and told us to
light Shabbat candles
Blessed are you Lord, Ruler of the Universe, who
brings forth bread from the earth.

4Erev Shabbat
The father of the family blesses the wine. The
wine reminds Jews of the creation of the world as
it is God that creates fruit.
The last thing to be blessed is the bread. The
father blesses two loaves of special bread,
called Challah. Challah is special bread has it
has some of it has been offered to God. There are
two loaves of bread to remind the Jews that God
gave them two portions of food on Friday in the
desert after he set them free from Egypt. This
meant they could celebrate Shabbat.
Shabbat starts with the Mother of the Jewish
family lighting two candles. She covers her eyes
and recites the Kiddush blessing. Once her eyes
are open Shabbat has begun.
Once the Shabbat greeting has been shared, the
father starts of Shabbat by blessing his children
and praising his wife saying Who can find a
good woman? Her price is far above rubies.
Now it is Shabbat the whole family exchange the
Shabbat greeting. SHABBAT SHALOM!
Create your own information sheet. Move the text
into the right order and put the pictures next to
the correct bits of text. If you think you need
to use a picture more then once you can copy and
paste it.
Now the blessing are over, the meal can begin!!!
