5Order of Events
- Did these things actually happen?
- Or were they written as a story to teach a point?
- What else has God done to teach us a point?
- The Jews and the Old Covenant
- Jesus lived a real life, and died a real death
- God is still doing real things to teach us
lessons the Jews are His witnesses
6A spiritual pattern
7Symbols in Genesis
8Life created
- Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in
our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of
the sea and the birds of the air, over the
livestock, over all the earth - Genesis 125
-
- If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has
come The old has gone, the new is here! - 2Corinthians 517
9Adam and Jesus
- LORD God formed the man from the dust of the
ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath
of life, and the man became a living being - The Hebrew for man (adam) sounds like and may be
related to the Hebrew for ground (adamah) it is
also the name Adam (see Gen. 220). - Genesis 27
- "The first man Adam became a living being" the
last Adam (Jesus God Saves), a life-giving
spirit. - 1Corinthians 1545

11The Flood and Baptism
- Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the
people of his time, and he walked with God Gen 6 - Noah was, in type, a new Adam and after the
flood was also given a covenant and authority
from God - God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them,
"Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the
earth.
- In it (the flood) only a few people, eight in
all, were saved through water, 21and this water
symbolizes baptism that now saves you alsonot
the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge
of a good conscience toward God 1Peter 320
12The Flood and Baptism
- It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus
Christ, 1Peter 320 - How?
- just as through the disobedience of the one man
(Adam) the many were made sinners, so also
through the obedience of the one man (Jesus) the
many will be made righteous. Romans 5 - all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus
were baptized into his death anyone who has
died has been freed from sin. Romans 6
13Given Authority
- who has gone into heaven and is at God's right
handwith angels, authorities and powers in
submission to him. 1Peter 322
- But I want you to understand that the head of
every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her
husband, and the head of Christ is God. - 1Corinthians 113

15Gods promises
Genesis 174-8 As for me, this is my covenant
with you You will be the father of many nations.
No longer will you be called Abram your name
will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of
many nations. I will make you very fruitful I
will make nations of you, and kings will come
from you. I will establish my covenant as an
everlasting covenant between me and you and your
descendants after you for the generations to
come, to be your God and the God of your
descendants after you. The whole land of
Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give
as an everlasting possession to you and your
descendants after you and I will be their God.
16Gods promises
Genesis 2215-18 The angel of the LORD called
to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, "I
swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because
you have done this and have not withheld your
son, your only son, I will surely bless you and
make your descendants as numerous as the stars in
the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your
descendants will take possession of the cities of
their enemies, and through your offspring all
nations on earth will be blessed, because you
have obeyed me."
17Why?
- Isaac being sacrificed by Abraham
- Son of promise, loved of his father, ordered to
be sacrificed by God (Is. 53, Acts 2)
- Abraham believed God would raise Isaac
- even though God had said to him, "It is through
Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.
19Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead,
and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac
back from death. Hebrews 11

20A type for Gentiles
Joseph in Egypt
Jesus
- A faithful servant (to Potiphar)
- Tempted but sinless
- Paid the price - with two others one of whom is
saved - Exalted to glory and power
- Appointed to save the world
- Provides the bread of life
- All nations are saved by coming to him
- Marries a Gentile bride who joins Gods people
- Took ..the form of a servant
- Tempted ... without sin
- He was numbered with the transgressors
- All power is given unto me ...
- God so loved the world...
- I am the bread of life ...
- In Christ, there is Jew nor Greek
- The bride has made herself ready
21Father of the faithful
Understand, then, that those who believe are
children of Abraham. The Scripture foresaw that
God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and
announced the gospel in advance to Abraham All
nations will be blessed through you.
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ
Jesus, for all of you who were baptised into
Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There
is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male
nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's
seed, and heirs according to the promise.
22The Future
- Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the
first heaven and the first earth had passed away,
and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy
City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of
heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully
dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud
voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling
of God is with men, and he will live with them.
They will be his people, and God himself will be
with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every
tear from their eyes. There will be no more death
or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order
of things has passed away." - He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I
will be his God and he will be my son - Revelation 21
