Yamuna Ji, according to the Shastras, was the
daughter of Surya, the Sun God, and sister of
Yamaraj, the God of Death. Shastras say that by
worshiping serving Yamuna ji one is liberated
becomes free of Bhaya of Yamaraj. Yamuna Ji is
intimately connected to Lord Krishna's pastimes.
He sanctified her from the beginning of His
transcendental pastimes in the world. Hundreds of
Sanskrit verses have been composed by saints in
the glorification of Yamuna ji. Every morning
priests of several prominent temples in Braj take
Yamuna jal to bathe deities. Many devotees start
their day by taking a holy dip Achaman by
reciting Yamunashtakam prayers. She is also the
central water source in Braj Dham region.

EFFEROTS TO CLEAN YAMUNA JI

• The government of India over the next five years
  has prepared plans to rebuild and repair the
  sewage system and the drains that empty into the
  river. The Japan Bank for International
  Cooperation (JBIC) is also participating in the
  Yamuna Action Plan.
• The plans to repair sewage lines is predicted to
  improve the water quality of the river 90 by the
  year 2010.

BUT no one is thinking of cleaning the filth
downstream of Delhi which leads to the area of
Braj ..Contaminating Holy Yamuna ji in

Significance of Yamuna Ji

• The River Yamuna is directly connected with Lord
  Krishna.
• Yamuna is the lifeline of Braj Bhoomi.
• Hundreds of Sanskrit verses have been composed by
  saints in the glorification of her.
• She is worshiped by millions of Vaishnavas from
  all sampradayas.

Yet its condition is shockingly horrible. It has
been converted into a big nallah (gutter).

Current Condition of Yamuna ji
Starting from Yamunotri traversing through
Northern India after Hariyana she enters Delhi
then Brajbhoomi. The water is amazingly clean
pure till Delhi.Unfortunately In Delhi
Sewage, Garbage Industrial wastes, chemicals
are dumped into her

Effect of Pollution

• Simply by bathing in the Yamuna, anyone can
  diminish the reactions of his sinful
• activities." (Krishna Book, Chap 38)
• BUT BE CAREFUL
• At present, Yamuna Ji has been declared a dead
  river by the Ecological Department of India,
  because of the excessive amount of coliform
  bacteria and other pollutants.
• Devotees who believe that by bathing in Yamuna Ji
  or taking its Aachman can clean them of their
  sins are putting them selves in great danger.
• Hundreds and thousands every year become ill and
  some even die due to the bacteria that is
  thriving in the river.
• Other casualties are birds and fish.
• There was a time when bird watchers had
  identified as many as 30 species of birds near
  the Yamuna, many of them exotic, such as the
  red-crested pochard and the godwit.

Dumping Ground For Pollution

• It is one of the most polluted rivers in the
  world, especially around New Delhi which dumps
  about 57 of its waste into the river.
• Although the government of India has spent nearly
  500 million to clean up the river, the river
  continues to be polluted with garbage while most
  sewage treatment facilities are underfunded or
  malfunctioning.
• In addition, the water in this river remains
  stagnant for almost 9 months in a year
  aggravating the situation.
• Delhi alone contributes around 3,296 million
  litres per day of sewage in the river.
