Brief History

• Manufactured time
• Since the 1980s
• Hand geometry scanners are first to find
  widespread computer use.
• Popularity
• Not as popular as iris or fingerprints
• Hand geometry scanners is a preferred form when
  it comes to PINs or ID cards.

• Doesnt require time-cards
• Cuts down on dishonesty when people try to scan
  in people that are not at work by taking their
  time-card
• Easy to monitor for hourly workers

• Advantages
• Less than 1 minute in enrollment phase
• Less than 5 seconds in recognition phase
• Human hands are symmetric
• If one hand is in a cast, the other than can be
  placed palm side up
• Disadvantages
• Cannot be used on very young or very old
• Has an relatively high equal error rate

Likes/Dislikes

• Likes
• Previous employer had hand scanners because of
  hourly employees
• Eliminated any dishonesty for clock time
• Dislikes
• Easily to get locked out of the system if you
  have jewelry on your hand that is scanned
• Time consuming to talk to the proper department
  to get back into the system

Conclusion

• Hand Scanners are generally very good to have.
  People dont have to worry about dishonesty about
  scanning other people in by using their time card
  because there are no time cards used.
• If your business relies heavily on hourly
  employees, hand scanners work very well as far as
  scanning your hand to clock in and out.
• Secure areas recommend these because hand
  scanners keep confidential areas safe from
  unauthorized persons.
