Educational Activities on Israel
The movement runs educational meetings and
activities for its members, a large proportion of
which focus on issues related to Israel. These
can deal with politics, the peace process,
Israeli society, culture or geography amongst
other topics.

Educational Activities on Israel
Madrichim are often lectured on issues relating
to Zionism and Israel. Above the late Ralph
Futerman of Machal lectures a meeting of
madrichim.
Channichim engage with Israel on their own level,
here they learn the alphabet on Mini-Machaneh and
enjoy Israeli food.

Rikkudei Am Israeli Dancing!
The past few years have seen a resurgence of
Israeli Dancing at Habonim. Here one can see
Madrichim and Channichim learning the moves.

The Zula!
The ZULA is a newly built structure next to the
main field of Machaneh (renamed Kikar Rabin is
1995) is the home-base of Israeli activities at
Machaneh. During free time there is always an
optional Israeli activity on offer in the Zula.

Connection with Israeli Youth
Through the Partnership 2000 program, our
channichim get to form relationship with children
from Israel who visit S.A.
As an example 11 Israeli sixteen year-olds came
to Habonim Machaneh 2004!

Victims of Terror
In 2003 Habonim hosted a group of children who
had been directly or indirectly affected by
terrorism in Israel. Above are some of the
children.

Israeli Madrichim
Some of the Israeli madrichim at Machaneh 2003.
Close to 20 Israeli madrichim are brought to
Machaneh each year.
Dotan Segal (son of Benzie) has come twice to
Machaneh as an Israeli madrich.

Shlichim
Our Shlichim from Israel are with the movement
for between 2 3 years before returning
home. Current and recent Shlichim clockwise from

Habonim chevre observe Yom Rabin, the anniversary
of his assassination. This group was filmed for
South African TV news.

Machon, the first 4 months of the year involves
lectures and on-site educational programs. On the
left is former Habonim South Africa Segan-Mazkir
Dani Hasson who now lectures at Machon.

The final three months of the year, known as
Kaveret, involve living communally, budgeting and
volunteering.

Other Israel Programs

• Bogrim Tours
• Habonim organises tours for its madrichim. These
  either have an Aliyah focus or a general
  educational focus. For example, in July 2005
  Habonim is running a madrichim tour of Israel and
  Poland.
• Kenes Mazkirim
• Each year the leadership of Habonim South Africa
  joins the leadership of Habonim from around the
  world for a seminar in Israel.
• Seminar Chazon
• Each year the leadership of Habonim joins the
  leadership of the other South African Zionist
  youth movements for a 10-day seminar in Israel.
• Israel Encounter Tour
• Each January hundreds of new matriculants get a
  10-day tour of Israel. Habonim sends madrichim
  with to assist with the program.

Zionist Activism
Habonim participated in Rally for Israel in 2002.
Our banners were a bit controversial with some!
But the movement felt good to demonstrate for
Israel and make a statement.

Zionist Activism
On various occasions a huge Peace Rally has been
organised at Habonim Machaneh, usually by the
Sayarim Shichvah. This is a moving experience for
the entire camp of 1000 people who affirm their
commitment to peace for Israel.

Zionist Activism
Habonim is passionate about Israels right to
exist as a Jewish state and is active in
protecting this idea. The movement is also
passionate that Israel will one day live in
peace, and we believe this is something to
actively work towards. We are therefore outspoken
in our support of measures which will see Israel
withdrawing from territory, ending the occupation
and living in peace with all the peoples of the
Middle-East.

Habonim is supported by a World office in
Israel which is based at Seminar Efal in Ramat
Efal outside of Tel Aviv.
