Title: Lessons in Salvation History

1
Lessons in Salvation History
  • Ephesians 211-16
  • Ryan Habbena
  • Twin City Fellowship
  • November 26 2006

2
Remembering the Mystery
  • Ephesians 18-9 In all wisdom and insight He made
known to us the mystery of His will, according to
His kind intention which He purposed in Him

3
Remember Where You Came From
  • EPH 211-12 Therefore remember that formerly
you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called
    "Uncircumcision" by the so-called "Circumcision,"
which is performed in the flesh by human hands --
remember that you were at that time separate from
Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel,
and strangers to the covenants of promise, having
no hope and without God in the world.

4
Children of the Promise
  • Galatians 36-9
  • Consider Abraham "He believed God, and it was
credited to him as righteousness." Understand,
then, that those who believe are children of
Abraham. The Scripture foresaw that God would
justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the
gospel in advance to Abraham "All nations will
be blessed through you." So those who have faith
are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

5
Circumcised in Christ
  • Colossians 211
  • and in Him you were also circumcised with a
circumcision made without hands, in the removal
of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of
    Christ

6
Brought Near by the Blood
  • Ephesians 213
  • But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far
off have been brought near by the blood of
    Christ.

7
Drawn by the Cross
  • John 1232-33 "And I, if I am lifted up from the
earth, will draw all men to Myself. But He was
saying this to indicate the kind of death by
    which He was to die.

8
The Promise is for the Far Off
  • Acts 238 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized,
every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for
the forgiveness of your sins. And you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The
promise is for you and your children and for all
who are far offfor all whom the Lord our God
    will call."

9
United through the Cross
  • Ephesians 214-16 For He Himself is our peace,
who made both groups into one and broke down the
barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in
His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of
commandments contained in ordinances, so that in
Himself He might make the two into one new man,
thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them
both in one body to God through the cross, by it
having put to death the enmity.

10
The Council of Jerusalem
  • Acts 157-11
  • After there had been much debate, Peter stood up
and said to them, "Brethren, you know that in the
early days God made a choice among you, that by
my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the
gospel and believe. "And God, who knows the
heart, testified to them giving them the Holy
Spirit, just as He also did to us and He made no
distinction between us and them, cleansing their
hearts by faith. "Now therefore why do you put
God to the test by placing upon the neck of the
disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we
have been able to bear? "But we believe that we
are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in
the same way as they also are."

11
1 We Must be a Christ-centered Community
  • Philippians 32-6
  • Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers,
beware of the false circumcision for we are the
true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of
God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no
confidence in the flesh, although I myself might
have confidence even in the flesh. If anyone else
has a mind to put confidence in the flesh, I far
more circumcised the eighth day, of the nation
of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of
Hebrews as to the Law, a Pharisee as to zeal, a
persecutor of the church as to the righteousness
which is in the Law, found blameless.

12
To Be Found In Him
  • Philippians 37-9
  • But whatever things were gain to me, those things
I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
More than that, I count all things to be loss in
view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ
Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss
of all things, and count them but rubbish so that
I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not
having a righteousness of my own derived from the
Law, but that which is through faith in Christ,
the righteousness which comes from God on the
    basis of faith,

13
2- Realize Gods Plan for Israel
  • ROM 1125-28 For I do not want you, brethren, to
be uninformed of this mystery -- so that you will
not be wise in your own estimation -- that a
partial hardening has happened to Israel until
the fullness of the Gentiles has come in and so
all Israel will be saved just as it is written,
"The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will
remove ungodliness from Jacob." "This is My
covenant with them, When I take away their sins."
From the standpoint of the gospel they are
enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of
God's choice they are beloved for the sake of the
    fathers

14
Conclusion 3 The Continuing Power of the Cross
  • Hebrews 1014
  • For by one offering He has perfected for all
    time those who are sanctified.
