What is a continuous learning calendar?

• Same number of school days as the traditional
  school calendar, 178 total
• Summer will be 7 weeks instead of 11
• Shorter, more frequent vacations spaced
  throughout the year

All major holidays will be the same.

• Thanksgiving Break
• Winter Break
• Spring Break

Why consider an alternative calendar?

• Students regress over an 11-week summer break.
• Less review time required.
• Shorter breaks help ensure learning is more
  continuous.
• Opportunity for additional time on
  learning-intersessions.

What is an intersession?

• A two week period of time that will occur once in
  the spring and once in the fall. These weeks off
  would normally be part of the summer months.
• This will be vacation time for some students and
  an opportunity for other students to strengthen
  skills by attending a half day of instruction in
  reading, writing, and math.

What is an intersession?

• The Rogers Boys and Girls Club will also
  provide child care during this time for those who
  register for the 10 one time fee.
• Types of activities provided by the Boys and
  Girls Club could include the following
• Arts and Crafts -- Guest Speakers
• Games -- Athletic Activities
• Technology -- Safety Training

Are there other benefits?

• Flexible family vacations
• Improved attendance
• Students and teachers are refreshed by frequent
  breaks in the schedule
• Flexibility in scheduling health services
• Could add up to 20 additional learning days
  (Optional)

Days Mathias will be out when other schools are
in session

• Two weeks in October
• Two days in November
• Last week of April
• First week of May

Busing and Food Services

• Busing will be provided during intersessions.
• Breakfast and lunch will be available during
  intersessions.

Where are we in the process?

• Mathias teachers support the calendar change.
• We will inform and poll Mathias parents.

Where are we in the process?

• If the calendar is supported by 80 of the
  parents, we will begin to partner with the
  community to develop and fund the program.
• Mathias students will get priority. Remaining
  slots will be available to students out of
  the boundary area.
• The calendar change will require school
  board approval.
