6PCA POSITIVE COACHING ALLIANCE
- Mental models have power. They affect
- how people see, think, and behave.
- If we were to characterize the prominent mental
model for coaching here at SVLL, It might be
characterized as -
- "Win-At-All-Cost"
- PCA, Little League and myself, believes this
needs to change!
7POSITIVE COACH MENTAL MODEL
There are three major elements to the "job
description" of a Positive Coach.. A Positive
Coach Redefines "Winner" Fills Players

27Evaluation
- SVLL works hard to put excellent officials on all
games, but to do that we need feedback! - Manager evaluations more at training
- All comments welcome _at_ chiefumpire_at_svll.net.
- The UIC will be around, watching, evaluating, and
encouraging our younger officials to keep
improving. - An umpire will make HUNDREDS of calls in just one
game. - 300 ball/strike calls
- A dozen or more safe/out calls a few of them
close ones - Interference, obstructions, warnings, infield
fly, theres a lot to call. - If Im right 95 of the time, I blow 15-20 calls
a game.
28Game Assignment
- The Home Team Manager is primarily responsible
for ensuring a full crew officiates each game
(two officials) - Youth crews work lower levels only in the regular
season. - Parent-child crews may work at-level (kids love
it more tip) - Umpires will be assigned to Tournament games
based on their abilities, experience, and
performance during the regular season. - Expect more information on using TheArbiter.net
to manage umpire assignments.
