Engineering Article
The Textile Engineering Society at NC State
University is composed primarily of
undergraduates in the textile engineering
program. The organization seeks to foster a
sense of community among the students, provides
opportunities to build relationships with the
faculty, and aids its members in learning more
about future careers in the field. In addition,
one of the top priorities of TES is to help
freshmen and other new students to become
familiar with the program and the curriculum. TES
also participates in group service projects and
makes at least one plant visit each year. Most
recently, TES has participated in Service
Raleigh, volunteered at the Central North
Carolina Food Bank, helped with the College of
Textiles
hurricane relief fundraisers, and sponsored
children through a holiday Angel Tree program.
Plans for the current semester include
participation in Service Raleigh and Habitat for
Humanity projects. Last year, the group visited
a plastic injection molding operation in
Burlington, and this year we are looking forward
to an upcoming trip to the UNIFI plant in
Kinston. TES is a thriving organization that not
only benefits its members through such avenues as
personal and professional development, but
benefits the college and the community as well.
