A Song The Way We Were
by Barbra Streisand
A Funny Story
18I experience again the deep-felt wish to be part
of a married couple... So intense is this wish
that if I write the word husband on a piece of
paper, my eyes fill with tears. WHY ARE THESE
LINES SO PAINFUL? Probably, the lines reminded
the widow (mentioned in Section A) of the way
they were. Enjoy the song and share the feeling
with the widow.
(lyrics)
19The Way We Were
20The Way We Were
- Memories light the corners
- Of my mind,
- Misty water color memories
- Of the way we were,
- Scattered pictures of the smiles
- We left behind,
- Smiles we gave to one another
- For the way we were.
21- Can it be that it was all so simply then,
- Or has time rewritten every line?
- If we had the chance to do it all again,
- Tell me, would we, could we?
- Memories may be beautiful, and yet,
- Whats too painful to remember,
- We simply choose to forget.
- So its the laughter we will remember,
- Whenever we remember.
- The way we were,
- The way we were.
The End

blues or jazz or opera but American popular song,
most often drawn for stage or screen. In this

252. A Funny Story
- A Bookworms Wedding Night
- James was a famous scholar who married rather
late in his life. On the wedding night the bride
found her husband reading instead of attending to
her. - I wish I were a book, she said, sighing.
- What do you want to be a book for? James
- asked with surprise.
- You would be more interested in me, then.
26- After serious thinking, he finally said to his
bride, Im afraid that wouldnt do, my dear. You
see, when I finish reading a book, I always start
with another. Do you want me to do the same thing
with you?
