  • evaluate and improve school climate and safety
  • address problems of school violence, bullying,
    harassment, prejudice and discrimination, and
    academic failure related to school climate
  • develop effective student behavioral and dropout
    prevention programs
  • improve adult/student respect, communication, and
    relationships
  • train teachers to effectively use data to assess
    teaching practices that are viewed by students as
    respectful, motivational, engaging, and
    empowering.

  • Collecting, analyzing, and using data to help
    educators make informed decisions about school
    improvement.
  • Training and involving students and teachers in
    educational leadership roles.
  • Helping student leaders to conduct research and
    to use the results to design comprehensive action
    plans

    climate, safety, and learning.

  • Goals for the APEX Project are to
  • Enhance the participation and meaningful
    involvement of students in Positive Behavioral
    Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Universal
    Teams.
  • Better understand students needs and their
    perceptions of school climate and safety by
    involving a broadly representative group of
    students as leaders.
  • Add student voice to the PBIS data collection
    process by implementing the Safe Measures School
    Climate and Safety Assessment process.

  • Goals for the APEX Project are to
  • 4. Develop a comprehensive, data-driven action
    plan that will serve as the focus of leadership
    for the Universal team.
  • 5. Develop internal support and leadership to
    assist students in the implementation of their
    action plans.

  • Introduce the program to teachers and principals.
  • Select and recruit a group of new student
    leaders.
  • Hold introductory meetings with student leaders.
  • Hold a Student Leadership Retreat.
  • Ask students leaders to officially join the
    Leadership Team.

  • Work with Main Street Academix to collect School
    Climate data from students and teachers and
    define the greatest strengths and needs of CHS.
  • Set leadership goals for the Student Leadership
    Team.
  • Form sub-groups to work on individual goals.
  • Do powerful activities that help improve the
    school.
  • Publicly celebrate your teams success !
