STATUS OF REGIONAL AIRPORTS IN HUNGARY
  • Classification of airports in Hungary
  • International Commercial Airports (at the moment
    only Budapest-Ferihegy) where permanent border
    control and customs services are provided by the
    state.
  • Public Airports International traffic is
    possible by temporary or occasional border
    opening, the cost of which are usually to be paid
    by users.
  • Characteristics of regional airports
  • modest airport infrastructure (usually grass
    airfields or former Soviet military bases)
  • airports usually owned by municipalities
  • owners intent to develop airports
  • lack of capital limits possibilities (possible
    solution PPP)
  • limited state support, only for two regional
    airports (so far not realised)
  • no scheduled domestic traffic in Hungary

    charter flights to Lake Balaton and to the spas
    of Hévíz and Zalakaros. (Regular charters by
    Eurowings, Swiss and Lufthansa CityLine)
  • Dedicated by the government as a strategic
    regional airport and is to be designated an
    international commercial airport.
  • State support is expected but has not been
    realized yet.

GYOR-PÉR AIRPORT

FINANCIAL RESOURCES FOR DEVELOPMENT
  • Municipal resources are very limited
  • EU support
  • Phare support used for Gyor-Pér Airport, but it
    is not available any more
  • ISPA and SAPARD resources are not available for
    airport development
  • Cohesion funds are unlikely to be available for
    airport development (maybe after 2007)
  • State support only for two regional airports
    (not realised yet)
  • Regional development resources
  • used for Pécs-Pogány Airport (so-called Phare
    Mirror Program)
  • support decision made by Regional Development
    Councils on the basis of applications submitted
  • available only if airport development is a
    declared aim in the Regional Development Program
