About me

• I am Dolores Lopez-Gallo, Mexican, mother and
  executive.
• I was born in a beautiful big city Mexico City.
  
• And I grew up in a big family, surrounded by
  men.

Why Chemical Engineer?

• The only thing I had in mind when I finished
  high school was
• I want to get a bachelor degree
• My biggest value Independence.
• After this decision, I thought that if I was
  going to invest time in University, I had to make
  it profitable. I found that Chemical Engineers
  were in a lot of different jobs and some with
  great positions.

Beyond University

• After the big effort I really enjoyed those
  years.
• My desire work in the middle of the Process.
• The answer that I got from the first company
  we are interested in hiring you, but for a
  marketing position.
• The second one Are you interested in the
  public relations area?
• I was so disappointed that I became a high
  school science teacher

Beyond University

• As a Teacher I got lots of challenges and
  beautiful experiences, but I found out that I was
  working too much for a small quantity of money.
• The Literature teacher told me that Celanese was
  looking for young Engineers, and thats where the
  story of my career starts.

• Celanese has been a great school for me,
• I have been working with it for the last 12
  years.
• And today I have a Sales Manager position with a
  huge responsibility.

If I can share something with you

• Women were gifted by nature and society
• - We can do what ever we want.
• - We can wear skirt or pants.
• But make sure that you can take care of yourself
  and you will be happy, taking care of others too.

Who am I?

• Name Roxanna Vega
• Relationship status married
• Degree Chemical Engineer
• Experience
• 2 years as scholar at PG CBD (Sales, Costco
  team)
• 3 years at PG Mariscala Plant (Chemical plant).
• 2.5 years as Process Engineer
• Currently as operations department manager
  (Maintenance, Production and Process Engineering)

Why Chemical Engineer?

• I always had curiosity for how the things were
  done, processes.
• I loved the plant visits to Bimbo, Marinela,
  etc.. at elementary school.
• My skills and preferences fit perfect with this
  degree.
• I love challenges.. and God.. This was a real
  challenge!!

My experience

• When I was interviewed by PG they offered me to
  work at CBD (sales). Therefore I worked 2 years
  as a scholar in General Offices.
• However I started to notice that I didnt enjoy
  the sales work at all and I asked for a change to
  Product Supply.
• They told me to wait until I finish my degree, so
  I did it.
• After I finished my degree PG offered me a
  position as a Process Engineer in Mariscala. I
  was really happy because this plant was a
  surfactant plant.. A Chemical plant!!
• And thats how I started my career at
  Manufacturing!!

Why do I like Manufacturing?

• Each day is completely different.
• I love to be me who is giving the visits I used
  to love.
• You have the possibility to have a team of your
  own, which helps you to increase your leadership
  skills.
• It is completely challenging. You have to use a
  lot of theory and thinking to solve daily issues.

Why do I like Manufacturing?

• You can understand most of the theory you saw at
  school that caused you head aches
• People is gentle (technicians and managers).
• You learn continuously. Generally you have people
  with a lot of experience reporting to you.
• And of course You can use your jeans and
  comfortable shoes, including your tennis

Why do I like Manufacturing?

• But the most important I enjoy my work!!

Why do I not like Manufacturing?

• It is a 365 days work, 24 hours, 7 days per week.
• Plants food is awful.

The challenges for mexican female engineers.

• Mexican culture- Machismo.
• Discrimination for production roles.
• 99 of the population at plants are men.
• Work-life balance.
• Romantic life is hard due to your professional
  success.
• Bosss harassment.

Some advices..

• Be proud of being a woman!!
• Believe your leadership role.
• Probe you can make anything.. Including equipment
  maintenance, operate, etc.. You will win their
  respect.
• Do not try to imitate men.. Use your woman
  skills multitask, relationships skill, etc..

Some advices..

• Never think that this is your unique
  opportunity.. Never allow anyone to make you feel
  uncomfortable. Its just a work!!
• Chose your personal priorities. (Work, family,
  etc.)
• But the major success secret is..
• To make whatever you love to do!!
• ITS UP 2 YOU!!
