  • Many ppl. blamed Hoover for the depression.
  • Roosevelt governor of NY helped provide aid to
    the ppl. especially farmers
  • Roosevelt wins in a landslide

    by his NEW DEAL plan. The New Deal Plan included
    the three Rs

  • CCC to conserve natural resources gave jobs to
    young people.
  • FER gave to state agencies to help the
    unemployed
  • WPA put the jobless to work in schools, parks
    hospitals
  • TVA produced cheap electric power in seven states

    unemployment insurance

  • There were many arguments against the New Deal
    because some felt the government should follow a
    hands off policy (laissez faire ) which may
    intrude into peoples lives. Some argued that the
    government was spending much more that it was
    taking in (deficit spending) which would lead to
    national debt ( or the money a government owes )

Supporters of the New Deal stated that the
government must help the poor. They believed that
the government was necessary for public and
necessary to restore the nations economic health.

    for the elderly, the disabled, children the
    unemployed.

  • The Supreme Court issued a series of rulings
    declaring several New Deal programs
    unconstitutional
  • Roosevelt proposed a plan that would allow his to
    appoint a new Supreme Court judge for every
    justice over 70.
  • This would allow him to appoint six new justices
    control the Supreme Court
  • Congress rejected the bill
