1Admissions Mission Statement
The Air Force Academy seeks young men and women
who have demonstrated high levels of academic
achievement as well as having sought out
challenges and excelled, and who bring a
diversity of talents, skills, viewpoints, and
experiences- young people who meet the needs of
the Air Force to include being pilot-qualified.
We seek excellence in academics, leadership,
athletics, and character. Racial, cultural and
gender diversity are valued. The first criterion
for admission is, of course, the potential for
success in our challenging academic and military
training environment. We look for much more than
just academic success. We seek leaders and
people with exceptional character people who
possess the qualities and motivation to excel in
our four-year experience and ultimately to go on
and serve as warriors for our Air Force and
nation.

- 17-22 years of age (not passed 23rd birthday as
of July 1 of year of entry) - Good moral character
- Unmarried
- No legal obligation to support a child or other

- 32 majors/ 2 minors (foreign language and
philosophy) - Science and Math majors require no foreign
language - 145-147 hours (cannot exceed 147-148 hours for
degree) - 96 hours are issued (no choice for cadets)

- North Central Accreditation 10yr cycle renewal in
2009 - ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and
Tech) 6 yr cycle renewal in 2008 - 1 teacher to 20 student ratio
- Freshmen are 4th degrees or Dulies Sophomores
are 3rd degrees Juniors are 2nd degrees and
seniors are 1st degrees - No hazing allowed students highly aware of
sexual harassment laws - 12,000 applicants, 1300 appointments class of
2008 - Staff members with PhD

- 530-550 cadets go onto pilot training
- By Christmas seniors know their assignment
- Junior year offers RK surgery ( no Lasik and no
students entered who have already had RK) - 700 monthly income for all years 1st and 2nd
degrees pay for laptop and uniforms from this
pay 3rd degrees get 30,000 loan for 1 (2003)
to buy car or invest 3rd degrees may have car on
campus - International countries may recommend cadets but
they pay 50,000 per year from country - Total value 310,000-350,000
- 6 1st degrees may be on glider team almost all
sophomores have glider opportunities all cadets
have parachute opportunities - 1 of USAFA can be cross committed to other
service academy
