What is Podcasting?

• iPod Broadcasting Podcasting (no longer
  specific to iPod)
  
• Podcasting enables independent producers and
  educators to create self-published, syndicated
  audio content.
  
• Listeners (Students in our case) may subscribe to
  feeds using "podcatching" software, which
  periodically checks for and downloads new content
  automatically. Some podcatching software is also
  able to synchronize (copy) podcasts to portable
  music players.
• Any digital audio player or computer with
  audio-playing software can play podcasts.

Myth or Truth?

• Any web hosted audio file is a podcast.
• False For an audio service to be a podcast, it
  has to be a regularly updated show or series
  with audio content being added at regular
  intervals. So for example, a one time uploaded
  audio lecture DOES NOT constitute a podcast.

• Students need an iPod to access podcasts
• False Students do not necessarily need to have
  an iPod to access podcasts. Podcasts can also
  play through an audio playing software such as
  iTunes which is a free software program.

How to Subscribe

• STEP 1 Install a podcatching client. There are
  several out there. One of the most popular is
  iTunes version 4.9 or later. Another very popular
  one is Juice (previously known as iPodder), which
  is free, and runs on Windows, Macintosh and
  Linux.

• STEP 2 Once you've got your podcatching client
  installed and running, you copy the link from the
  RSS feed. This is usually an orange button marked
  XML or RSS.

• STEP 3 Paste the link into your podcatching
  client.
