World Wide Weather

• 1st and 2nd Grade Science

Objective

• Students begin to understand that weather is
  different all over the world. Students explore
  different weather patterns, noting how weather in
  one location helps predict weather in related
  areas.

Process

• The students will be in groups of 3. Assign each
  group a continent. Assign each individual a role
  within each group (reporter, recorder, equipment
  manager).
• Ensure that team members understand their roles
  and responsibilities for the first week of data
  collection.
• The students will watch the weather portion of
  the news the night before and record relevant
  information such as the high and low temperature
  and the weather condition.
• The next day the recorder will write the
  information in their journal.

Procedure (cont.)

• The equipment manager will look for photographs
  and weather maps that describe the weather of the
  city during the week, saving the items in a
  specially marked folder or disk.
• Conduct class discussion on vocabulary that have
  been crossed so far.
• Continue until Thursday. Friday students will
  create posters, and gather information for
  meteorologist presentations. Students will use
  Kid Pix to make presentation.
• Monday, students will present information as
  meteorologists to the class.
