The IEEE James H. Mulligan Education Medal
  • IEEEs Medals represent the highest level of
    recognition offered in the Institutes
    Awards program.
  • The IEEE James H. Mulligan Education Medal
(previously IEEE Education Medal) was established
in 1956 by the American Institute of Electrical
Engineers, and continued by the Board of
    Directors of the IEEE.
  • This Medal recognizes the importance of an
    educator's contributions to the vitality,
    imagination, and leadership of engineering
    education.
  • It is presented annually to an individual for a
career of outstanding contributions to education
    in IEEE fields of interest.

Funding realities for all IEEE Awards are
changing
  • Corporate support has shrunk sharply.
  • There is no long-term commitment for Education
    Medal. 2008 funding is secure.
  • EAB has not participated in IEEEs Institute-wide
    Awards program.
  • The Education Medal is an appropriate recognition
    for support by EAB.
  • The main question is budgetary.

5
Next steps
  • EAB will be asked to consider in 2/08 whether to
add partial or full support for the Education
    Medal to its 2009 budget.
  • Current full cost is about 28K/yr
  • More details on the Education Medal are shown on
    the Awards Board site
