• Practiced in various locations throughout the
  world. Mainly in the US, Canada, Europe, South
  America, Australia
• Scriptures are written in the Bible
• Based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ
• Symbolized by the Cross
• Believe in one god, monotheism

Catholicism (Christianity)

• Original Christian religion
• Pope is the spiritual leader
• Mass in the center of worship
• Believe salvation can only be achieved through
  Gods grace
• The seven sacraments are a way to achieve grace
  (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance,
  Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Marriage)
• Dominant religion of Western Europe and South
  America, Australia, Canada

Protestant (Christianity)

• Broke away from the Roman Catholic Church as a
  result of the influence of Martin Luther
• Martin Luther debated the sell of indulgences and
  nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the
  Wittenberg Church
• Religion is divided into different denominations
• Some include Anabaptist, Anglican, Baptist,
  Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist, and
  Pentecostal
• Appose the interpretations of the Roman Catholics
  saying the Bible is the Word of God and is
  self-interpreting
• Dominant religion the US

Orthodox (Christianity)

• Founded by various Apostles throughout Jerusalem
• Separated from Roman Catholicism when the Greeks
  did not recognize the Pope as the head of their
  church
• Very similar to Roman Catholicism
• Believe priesthood has no authority over an
  individual saint
• Dominant religion of Eastern Europe

ISLAM

• Nationalism of the Arab world
• Preferred Religion mainly in Northern Africa and
  the Arab countries (Saudi Arabia, Mecca, Etc.)
• Worshippers are known as Muslims
• Quran (Koran), written by Muhammad, is the
  scripture of Islam
• Muhammad was founder in Mecca and Medina
• Believe in one god, Allah
• Go to mosque for prayers, sermon, counsel
• Pray five times daily facing Mecca

HINDUISM

• Founded in India where it is the main religion
• Based on the concept of reincarnation
• Creator god is Brahman
• Main scriptures include the Vedas, Upanishads,
  and Bhagavad-Gita
• Worship stone and wooden idols in temples
• Followers are Hindus

JUDAISM

• Preferred religion of Israel
• Founded by Abraham of the Bible in the Middle
  East
• Believe the world was created by a all-knowing
  single divinity and all things have meaning and
  are part of a divine order
• Worshipers are known as Hebrews Jews
• Celebrate Hanukkah, Sabbath, Yom Kippur
• Scripture is the Torah, entire body of Jewish
  religious literature
• Jerusalem is considered to be the holy city and
  center of religion

BUDDHISM

• Preferred religion in China, Japan, Korea, and
  Southeast Asia
• Founded in India
• Based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama
• Scriptures are written in the Tripitaka (Three
  Baskets)
• Some people speak of Buddha as a god, yet, many
  Buddhists do not believe in a god or Supreme
  Being
• People have no soul or spirit and there is no
  heaven or hell
• Goal in life is nirvana, eliminate desire and
  temptation

• Founded by Joseph Smith in Utah
