Common medical tests for Heart

  • Blood tests
  • When your muscle has been damaged, as in a heart
attack, your body releases substances in your
blood. Blood tests can measure the substances and
show if, and how much of, your heart muscle has
    been damaged.
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • An ECG reads your hearts electrical impulses.
It shows how well your heart is beating.
  • Echocardiogram (ultrasound)
  • An echocardiogram is a common test. It gives a
picture of your heart using ultrasound, a type of
X-ray. It uses a probe either on your chest or
    down your esophagus (throat).

Common medical tests for Heart

  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • An MRI uses very strong magnets and radio waves
to create detailed images of your heart on a
computer. It can take still or moving pictures of
    your heart.
  • Coronary computed tomography angiogram (CCTA)
  • This is a specialized type of computed tomography
(CT) scan that may be used to help diagnose
coronary artery disease. It is a non-invasive
test for people who may be experiencing unusual
    cardiac symptoms.
  • Nuclear cardiac stress test
  • This test is sometimes called an exercise
thallium scan, a dual isotope treadmill or an
    exercise nuclear scan
  • A radioactive substance called a tracer is
injected into your bloodstream. It goes to your
heart and releases energy. Special cameras take a
picture of this energy from outside your body.

Heart Attack Symptoms

  • Chest Discomfort
  • Its the most common sign of heart danger. If you
have a blocked artery or are having a heart
attack, you may feel pain, tightness, or pressure
    in your chest.
  • Pain that Spreads to the Arm
  • Another classic heart attack symptom is pain that
radiates down the left side of the body.
  • Throat or Jaw Pain
  • By itself, throat or jaw pain probably isn't
heart related. More likely, it's caused by a
muscular issue, a cold, or a sinus problem.

Heart Attack Symptoms

  • You Get Exhausted Easily
  • If you suddenly feel fatigued or winded after
doing something you had no problem doing in the
past - like climbing the stairs or carrying
groceries from the car - make an appointment with
    your doctor right away.
  • Snoring
  • Its normal to snore a little while you snooze.
But unusually loud snoring that sounds like a
gasping or choking can be a sign of sleep apnea.
Thats when you stop breathing for brief moments
several times at night while you are still
sleeping. This puts extra stress on your heart.
  •  A Cough That Wont Quit
  • In most cases, this isn't a sign of heart
trouble. But if you have heart disease or know
you're at risk, pay special attention to the
    possibility.

Prevention a Heart Attack

  • Stop smoking
  • Cigarette smoke contains more than 7,000
chemicals, which, over time, can damage your
    heart and blood vessels.
  • Lower your cholesterol
  • Even if you think your blood cholesterol level is
okay, getting it even lower can protect against a
heart attack. The more low-density lipoprotein
cholesterol you have floating around your
bloodstream, the greater the chance that it gets
    deposited inside your coronary arteries.
  • Manage your blood pressure
  • About 62 of men ages 65 to 74 have high blood
pressure however, most are not aware of it. The
latest guidelines place normal blood pressure at
below 120/80 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) with
120 to 129/80 mm Hg now considered elevated, and
130 to 139/80 to 89 mm Hg considered high.

Prevention a Heart Attack

  • Get your sleep
  • "Bad sleep leads to bad health," says Dr. Bhatt.
"Not getting sufficient sleep and struggling with
disruptive sleep problems like sleep apnea and
insomnia raise the risk of heart disease." Most
adults need at least seven hours of sleep.
However, when it comes to heart health, you need
to make sure you don't sleep too little or too
    much.
  • Lower your stress
  • Chronic stress can increase inflammation in your
body, which in turn can raise high blood pressure
    and lower "good" HDL cholesterol.
  • "Stress can have many sources personal issues,
financial situations, health problems so it's
essential to work at managing stress regularly"
