- AVID is designed to increase school-wide
learning and performance. The mission of AVID is
to ensure that all students, and most especially
the least served students in the middle capable
of completing a college path

6Recruitment
- Identify potential AVID students.
- Provide program information to potential AVID
students and parents. - Select AVID students.
7Identify Potential AVID Students
- Talk to counselors and teachers. Use
Teacher/Counselor Recommendation Form. - Examine Student records participation in free
or reduced lunch program, GPA, SAT 9 scores,
class schedule, behavior and attendance records.
8Provide Program Information to Potential AVID
Students and Parents
- Have a group meeting of potential AVID
candidates and their parents to explain
program. - Pass out AVID program fliers and applications.
9Select AVID Students
- Distribute teacher/counselor recommendation
forms. - Once students return applications, begin the
interview process. - Send letters of acceptance or non- acceptance.
10Schedule and Develop Plan for each AVID student
- Plan a welcome reception.
- Distribute Student/parent AVID contract.
- Help students develop their 4 - 6 year plan.
- Help students set their goals.

develop the capacity to understand content that is
complex, ambiguous, provocative, and personally
or emotionally challenging.
